Michael Francis Lane
Michael Francis Lane, from
his youth, was imbued with a keen response to creativity and beauty in art and
nature. As he matured, he became an avid student of the fine arts as well
as literature and poetry. In his own works he was inspired by many of the
great artists, writers, and poets, whom he had come to love through his years of
study.
Michael's chosen medium was
acrylic on both canvas and wood. His style is a composite of
impressionistic and
contemporary characteristics. Although he painted from early
childhood, Michael produced most of the more than 200 works of art in
this collection in the last few years of his life.
It was Michael's great desire that his
art be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
Michael grew up and was educated in
Southboro, Massachusetts. He attended Johnson State College in
Vermont, and spent most of his working career at TILL (Towards
Independent Living and Learning), helping physically and mentally
disadvantaged adult clients. His understanding and sympathetic
love for "his people" were a reflection of his artistic sensibilities
and an inspiration to all who knew him.
Michael died on January 28, 2002, at
the age of thirty-three.
