Michael Francis Lane Bio

From his youth, Michael Francis Lane was imbued with a keen response to creativity and beauty in art and nature. As he matured, Michael became an avid student of the fine arts, as well as literature and poetry. In his own works he was inspired by many of the great artists, writers, and poets, whom he had come to love through his years of study.

Michael’s chosen medium was acrylic on wood and many of the pieces displayed here measure 4’x4′. His style was a composite of impressionistic and contemporary characteristics. Although he painted from early childhood, the majority of the more than 200 works of art in this collection were produced in the last few years of Michael’s life.

It was Michael’s great desire that his art be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

Michael grew up and was educated in Southborough, Massachusetts. He attended Johnson State College in Vermont (which later became part of Northern Vermont University) and spent most of his working career at Towards Independent Living and Learning (TILL), helping physically and mentally disadvantaged adult clients. His understanding and sympathetic love for “his people” were a reflection of his artistic sensibilities and an inspiration to all who knew him.

Michael died on January 28, 2002, at the age of thirty-three.
